This is the second in a series of blog posts about Southwest Cyberport web hosting plans. If you missed the first one, you can view it here. You can also read about the technical details of SWCP’s web hosting infrastructure on our companion blog. This article will explain the Basic Plan, and what type of sites it works well for.
Basic Plan
Cost: $15/month
Features are 200 MB of storage, 10 GB of monthly transfer, basic web statistics, VLW, and certain web applications.
The Basic Plan is appropriate for web sites that need more storage than the Starter plan provides, or some basic web application, such as a blog or forum. Sites on the Basic plan often contain a gallery of images or PDF’s that require more storage space than the Starter Plan. This is also the plan if you are looking to start a blog. The premiere blogging software on the web is WordPress, and it is available in this plan by one-click install. More and more people are finding they can happily manage their entire website with WordPress, in fact.
You can create your Basic site with any web authoring software that builds standards compliant web pages. Alternatively, you can use WordPress to build and edit your site. WordPress is a web application originally designed for blogging, but that has grown into the web’s most popular content management system. It enables you to use your web browser to build your web site. Learning any tool takes a little time and effort, but WordPress is designed to be as simple to use as possible. To give you an idea of it’s power and flexibility, Southwest Cyberport’s own web site is a WordPress site.
If you would like to learn more about WordPress, consider attending Albuquerque WordCamp. It is a local conference devoted to WordPress. Southwest Cyperport is proud to be a sponsor of Albuquerque WordCamp 2011.
