We don’t have a lot of details yet, but CenturyLink is suffering a nationwide internet outage at the moment. Not all sites are down, some are fine, some are intermittently reachable, some not at all. Our local connections in Albuquerque are fine, but connections are failing further upstream at exchanges in Los Angeles and elsewhere. We don’t have an estimated repair time yet. We will update this post when we learn more.
UPDATE: As of about 8:30AM MDT it has been reported that the cause of the outage is fixed. It involved routing protocol errors, which extended beyond Level3 (a global internet backbone carrier, owned by CenturyLink) to cause problems with many other carriers as well.
UPDATE Monday morning: For more information here’s a CNN article, and a more technical post-mortem analysis from CloudFlare
